Preceptor Job Posting - Life Sciences 2 / OEB 121a
The Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology is seeking a Preceptor to organize and supervise laboratories for the undergraduate course, LS2: Evolutionary Anatomy and Physiology, that will be offered FY2009 (anticipated enrollment 200-220), in combination with a smaller research projects course OEB121a: Advanced Vertebrate Physiology and Anatomy (anticipated enrollment 10-12).
Responsibilities:
Recruits, trains, and supervises TAs and TFs. Conducts demonstration laboratories for TAs and TFs. Maintains relationship with the Bok Center to provide training for TAs and TFs. Supervises student laboratory section sessions and reviews progress. Meets with students and TAs and TFs. Reviews grading issues not resolved by TAs and TFs. Acts as liaison between the instructional staff and laboratory support group. Reviews lab equipment needs and oversees purchasing and maintenance of core laboratory support components, ensuring maintentance of state-of-art teaching laboratory equipment.
Manages course website. Works with faculty to prepare laboratory manuals and to design and implement new teaching laboratories, as well as preparing other handouts. Assists in the assessment of labs and course.
Requirements:
Ph.D. in Biological Sciences; leadership skills to assist in training teaching fellows and to manage relationships with up to 250 undergraduates. Strong commitment and background in undergraduate science education. Experience working with individual undergraduates and with bench science research. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills required, as well as demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
Specialized per course:
Background in vertebrate, with emphasis on human, physiology and morphology. Knowledge of instrumentation for physiological measurements and analysis of data required, and previous experience with physiological measurements on living vertebrates strongly preferred.
Other:
The position is a twelve-month appointment, July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009, with possibility of renewal up to eight years. The position will remain open until filled.

The Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology is seeking a Preceptor to organize and supervise laboratories for the undergraduate courses, OEB 10: Foundations of Biological Diversity (anticipated enrollment 100) offered in the Fall Term and to assist with support of OEB55: Ecology (enrollment 40 students) and other OEB field courses during the Spring Term.
Responsibilities:
