Fall semester course

A lecture course in evolutionary developmental biology. Main principles and
mechanisms of development as illustrated on both invertebrate and vertebrate
animal model systems. In this course we will discuss how animal embryos develop
adult body plans on cellular and molecular level. Particular emphasis will be
placed on how knowledge of developmental biology helps us understand

2. OEB 261r : Developmental Mechanisms of Evolutionary Change

Instructors: Arkhat Abzhanov and James Hanken

Harvard College/GSAS: 8451
Spring semester course

A graduate seminar course in evolutionary developmental biology. In this course,
we will discuss the latest advances in our understanding of cellular and
molecular developmental mechanisms behind important evolutionary concepts with
emphasis on major evolutionary transitions and the origin of innovations in
animal evolution.

3. Biological Sciences E-115 : Evolutionary Developmental Biology of Animals
Instructor: Arkhat Abzhanov

Harvard Extension School: 13107
Fall semester course: Extension School

This course discusses how understanding mechanisms of animal developmental
genetics helps to explain the scope and patterns of animal diversity.
Particular emphasis is placed on major evolutionary transitions, the origin of
innovations, and the contribution of evolutionary developmental biology to the
current debates on evolution and human biology. Prerequisites: BIOS E-1a and
E-1b, or the equivalent, or permission of the instructor.

4. Biological Sciences E-202: Topics in Developmental Biology
