Developmental mechanisms for morphological convergence in Anolis lizards

Lizard

In collaboration with Dr. Jonathan Losos (OEB, Harvard), we are investigating developmental mechanisms of cranial morphological diversity in anole lizards (a famous example of convergent/parallel evolution in vertebrates). Dr. Thomas Sanger, a postdoctoral fellow on this study, is making significant progress in analyzing the head shapes of lizards with geometric morphometrics and using molecular approaches to perform comparative analysis of their craniofacial development, which will be followed up by further functional studies on juvenile lizards.
