Girguis Laboratory @ Harvard University

Research on the ecological physiology of uncultivable marine microbes

Annelys Roque

Annelys RoqueI am a proud member of the class of 2009, meaning that I will hopefully have the privilege to be in the Girguis Lab for two more years. This is my second year working at the lab, where so far I have done everything from testing osmotic pumps, to briefly being one of the caretakers of some Codakia orbicularis, to swimming in our huge salt water tank! Aside from my many adventures, I have also learned some invaluable protocols and techniques during my time here thanks to the tutelage of all of our lab members. For the next two years, I will be working with Dr. Julie Robidart on a genome subtraction project that will focus on a hydrothermal worm species (yet to be determined) at several of the major vent sites. This will hopefully develop into my senior thesis! Until then, I am happy to be a member of the Girgoyles!
