Background

I grew up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where I got my BA in Ecology and MS in Genetics, working with Dr. Rui Cerqueira on the life-history strategies of small mammals. In 2001, I moved to Campinas (São Paulo) and to the Drosophila world. During my PhD, I worked with Dr. Louis Bernard Klaczko on the recent invasion of Zaprionus indianus in Brazil. In 2002, I had the chance to do part of my research in collaboration with Dr. Jean David at the CNRS (Gif-sur-Yvette, France), where I stayed for six months. Still not enough moving, I came to Hartl lab in 2003 and worked as a technician in Yun Tao's project of describing the molecular basis of hybrid incompatibilities. Soon moving back to Campinas, I defended my thesis for the Universidade Estadual de Campinas in April of 2005.

Research interests

I am interested in several aspects leading to hybrid incompatibilities in Drosophila. In my current research I am using species of the simulans complex to map factors that might be associated with reproductive isolation and speciation.

Hobbies

I love to study music, both theory and practice, where mandolin has been my preferred instrument. Also, I like to attend concerts, go for walks in the sun and camping on mountain sites.
