Background

I completed my PhD in the Department of Ecology and Evolution at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, under the supervision of Professor Nicolas Perrin. My thesis work has been in the area of evolutionary theory and population genetics. I focused on estimation of sex-specific dispersal rates and on quantification of effective population size. I developed an analytical framework for measuring these parameters in natural populations, using genetic markers. The method, based on pre-dispersal and post-dispersal samples, requires few demographical assumptions and limited sampling efforts. This framework can be extended easily to include metapopulation dynamic and I derived estimates of extinction rate. I applied these methods to a metapopulation of white-toothed shrews (Crocidura russula). In this species, in populations sampled along an altitudinal gradient, I also investigate the effect of mitochondrial polymorphism on the capacity of thermogenesis.

Research interests

My research here focuses on the evolution of sex-specific gene expression in Drosophila melanogaster.
