I am a senior at Harvard College concentrating in Organismic and Evolutionary Biology, and am writing an honors thesis under Professor Kramer. My research in the Kramer lab centers on investigating the function, regulation, and evolution of the C class genes in Aquilegia, the Columbine flower. A duplication of AGAMOUS in Aquilegia has produced two paralogous copies – AqAG1 and AqAG2. I am interested in the function of AqAG1 in concert with AqAG2; specifically in any possible subfunctionalization of the C class function in Aquilegia and novel interactions with the B class genes.
