Fall 2008 and 2009:

Neurobiology 95a: Neurogenetics in Learning and Memory
Harvard College/GSAS: #9013

Time: Fall, Mondays & Thursdays 4 – 5:30pm
Place: Northwest Laboratory B109

Learning is a remarkable function of the nervous system. This seminar series is focused on the genetic effects on learning processes. We will first review basic physiology and molecular signaling in neurons. We will then discuss the current understanding of molecular and cellular mechanisms of learning based on studies in Aplysia, C. elegans, Drosophila and the mammalian hippocampus. Finally, we will discuss current research progress on understanding addiction and drug abuse, including possible treatments.

Spring 2009:

Harvard College/GSAS: 1434

Time: Spring
Place: TBA

Review of current literature related to genetic effects on neural functions including: (1) genetic contributions to mental illness; (2) current understanding of underlying mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases; (3) genes and behaviors; (4) modulations of neuronal functions by environment and experiences.
