Travel

Updated Sept 1, 2009

During their time in OEB, many graduate students travel within the US or aboard for activities related to their research. A variety of resources are available from OEB and from Harvard to ensure that students have safe and productive travels.

OEB requests that you fill out and submit the following paperwork to the graduate program staff in advance of your next trip:

The grad program staff will then work with you to ensure that you’ve filled out all of the necessary waivers and releases that Harvard requires.

For information on grants for research travel, visit the Stipends, Taxes, and Grants page.

Resources for International Field Work

The Harvard College of Office of International Programs publishes an extremely useful guide to travel abroad.  It has great advice and contains helpful checklists regarding numerous topics.  These include visas, money, legal matters, and health and safety issues.  This handbook is well-worth reading prior to your next international trip.

Another useful resource is a handbook written for faculty and leaders of international trips, which may be especially useful for those TFs organizing spring field trips.  The Faculty Trip Leader’s Handbook (http://www.fas.harvard.edu/~oip/trip_leaders_handbook.html) is a publication of the Office of the Provost at Harvard.
