In a new study published in [Proceedings of the Royal Society B](http://rspb.royalsocietypublishing.org/content/280/1773/20131758?version=meter%20at%20null&module=meter-Links&pgtype=article&contentId=&mediaId=&referrer=http://www.oeb.harvard.edu/news_events/index.html&priority=true&action=click&contentCollection=meter-links-click), **L. Mahadevan** and colleagues detail the bizarre grisly mechanism that ticks use to attach to their victims and hold on while gorging themselves with blood. The work, which also includes a video, is featured in *[The New York Times](http://www.nytimes.com/2013/10/30/science/earth/how-does-a-tick-do-its-dirty-work-research-video-offers-a-clue.html?hp&_r=0).*
