Postdoctoral Fellow, **Melissa Whitaker's** (**N. Pierce** Lab) [study published in Frontiers In Microbiology](http://journal.frontiersin.org/article/10.3389/fmicb.2016.01920/full?&utm_source=Email_to_authors_&utm_medium=Email&utm_content=T1_11.5e1_author&utm_campaign=Email_publication&field=&journalName=Frontiers_in_Microbiology&id=230496#), shows that, unlike most herbivores, lycaenid butterflies do not rely on bacterial symbioses to mediate their diet.
