 

#  Postdoc, Nathan Mueller Discovers Today's Farming Practices Can Cause Cooler Temps

Nathan Mueller, postdoctoral fellow in **Michele Holbrook's** lab, examined farming practices in the Midwest and found the highly fertilized and too-closely planted crops have resulted in land-use patterns intense enough to change the surrounding climate. The [study published in Nature Climate Change](http://www.nature.com/nclimate/journal/v6/n3/full/nclimate2825.html) shows the regions with the most intense farming have lower peak summer temperatures.
