#  Scott Edwards Receives Inaugural IDEA Award

 The Society for the Study of Evolution, The American Society of Naturalists, and the Society of Systematic Biologists announces **Scott Edwards** and Dr. Richard Kliman (Cedar Crest College) as recipients of the inaugural [Inclusiveness, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) Award](http://www.evolutionsociety.org/news/display/2020/3/9/2020-idea-award-winners-scott-edwards-and-richard-kliman/). Dr. Edwards and Dr. Kliman were selected for their steadfast commitment to increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion of underrepresented minorities in evolutionary biology.

 In 2001, they started the [Undergraduate Diversity at Evolution (UDE) program](https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.evolutionsociety.org_content_education_undergraduate-2Ddiversity-2Dat-2Devolution.html&d=DwMFaQ&c=WO-RGvefibhHBZq3fL85hQ&r=OMghTb2yEn_Ctp067yO647NBmCoOBPvKK_R0rVgBoPE&m=-ZQgb1sGxqSV-0yF_mjBJDNhfCgI2kBazdF3xP3CplM&s=V4-ePZPg1_f73Vm_VziQ9F5K4EgL1Ra1wbJZDOJGojo&e=) to provide funding and mentorship for students to attend the annual Evolution meeting. Since its inception, nearly 250 US and international undergraduates have had the opportunity to participate.
